Titre : Towards Online Landscape-Aware Algorithm Selection in Numerical Black-Box Optimization

Résumé : Optimization is one of the central themes across many scientific fields. Solving an optimization problem is typically not easy. In order to tackle these problems, we resort to black-box optimization algorithms (BBOA). To be able to achieve peak performance, a large pool of existing BBOAs induces a challenging meta-optimization problem: how does one select the most efficient algorithm for a given problem instance?
A possible approach to solve this meta-problem is subsumed under the term of landscape-aware algorithm selection (AS). Fitness landscape features of a problem are first automatically computed and then used as a basis for further selecting an algorithm; this requires additional overhead cost in terms of function evaluations. This thesis proposes a novel framework that incorporates feature extraction within the optimization process itself, which allows for saving resources and taking one step further towards designing more accurate AS models that operate in an online fashion.
